Engage

August 8, 2016

When I was first asked if I would be interested in writing blogs for NMRID, my first thought was a slideshow of all of the amazing interpreters I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with. I’ve only been interpreting professionally for two years—what could I possibly have to say?

Actually, I realized I have quite a lot I could say, but that isn’t what I want. What I want more than anything is to make connections, share, learn, and discuss. I am just a tiny piece of a large community, and what good is one piece of a puzzle? Until every piece is put together, you’ll never know what picture they form. I don’t know about you, but I want to see what that picture is. I don’t care if it’s a Norman Rockwell, a Picasso, or a snapshot of Rambo, I want to see it. I hope that you will help me make that happen.

I’m not here to post funny memes (though I might) or act like I’ve got it all figured out (because no one does). I’m here to engage. The goal is to post topics, resources, and news here weekly, and you can participate by sharing your thoughts and experiences with each other in the comments. You all know the ground rules already. Don’t share confidential information. Respect each other. It’s that simple.

You can also submit a topic you would like to see discussed, or, if you would like to have your own blog appear here, submit a blog proposal. Send these to Blog.nmrid@gmail.com. Be sure to follow NMRID on Facebook if you haven’t already as links to the blogs will be posted there.

I’m thrilled for the opportunity to share with all of you, but, more than anything, I am more excited to hear from you.

Aaaaaaaaand GO!
