Workshop Title: Welcome to the Profession

Location: New Mexico Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Albuquerque, NM
Description: This workshop is designed to assist interpreters who are new to the profession and are unsure of how to launch their careers as independent contractors. The training will address the business side of interpreting, which includes Gross Receipt Taxes, tax deductions, and freelance contracts in NM. Participants will discuss how to start and maintain a successful interpreting business, common business practices and pitfalls, tips on long-term financial and career goals, and skill enhancement resources. Deaf and hearing interpreters are encouraged to attend.
